This was The McCabes' first ever CD. We recorded it one week before St Patrick's Day in 2001 at the legendary New York Irish club, Paddy Reillys. A lot of bands got their start here, which some have called the CBGB's of Irish venues. For example, Black 47, Eileen Ivers, Speir Mor, Rogues March, Tony de Marco (who still runs a session there every Thursday-New York's longest running session), and many others.

The McCabes have been around for six years. We have played about a thousand gigs, most of the earlier ones in bars, many of the recent ones at festivals. We are very popular in New York. People have been known to get very drunk while listening to our band; don't know why but that's a fact. That's why bars are always calling us up.They kow folks will buy a lot of beer. We enjoy playing bars but we really like playing festivals; it's the smell of the grass and the sound of the birds in between sets, and hanging out with other bands on the bill. Makes you realize why you got into playng music in the first place. 'Dark before The Dawn' is our third cd, recorded in one day. You might be able to hear that while you listen; I would call the sound on this cd rough but spontaneous. I think Paddy's Day is one of my best songs. It's a description of the vibe in NYC on Paddy's Day
